Students - Other Subjects - Manners

As a rule, we learn manners at home. However, since the '60s, traditional home life has been generally disrupted. None of us are born knowing how to behave in different situations. The present lack of civility is due to the lack of attention given to the subject of behavior - both individually and in a group.

Let's remedy the situation, and give some attention to those things that make us pleasant to be with. There are a handful of books that can serve as handy reference guides when there are no adults around to give us the proper instruction.

Teen Etiquette by Emily Post and Joan Coles. The thing I like about Emily Post is that she tells you what's right. She doesn't give you choices. She gives you the correct behavioral recommendation for different situations. Yes. There really is correct behavior. Then it's your choice. $12.50

Tiffany's Table Manners for Teenagers. What do you do when you are invited to a formal-style dinner party and are confronted by 3 forks, 4 glasses, and innumerable other utensils and dishes. Tiffany has provided  humorous but correct answers with lots of drawings.    $17.95

Elbows off the Table, Napkins in the Lap, No Video Games during Dinner by Carol Wallace. Another approach so that you will feel comfortable in old and new situations. Fear of being embarrassed goes out the window when you know what you are supposed to do.  $11.95

Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. Based on the very useful  book for adults, this book gives you helpful information on your way to becoming  successful and productive adults.  $14.00
